Striped Japanese Ornamental Corn
An eye-catching heirloom from Japan, first documented in the 1890s as “Striped-Leafed Japanese Maize.” This stunning ornamental corn features bold, variegated leaves striped in vibrant shades of hot pink, green, yellow, and creamy white. Each plant displays its own unique color pattern, making every one a living work of art.
Growing 4–6 feet tall, the plants produce deep purple (almost black) tassels and striking ears with rich burgundy-red kernels. The colors intensify beautifully when plants are spaced 12–18 inches apart, giving them room to fully express their vibrant personality.
This beautiful corn makes a magnificent edible decoration for Halloween or Thanksgiving centerpieces. It’s also perfect for container gardens and looks spectacular when paired with bright petunias or trailing sweet potato vines.
